The Position:
The County Administrator manages County operations by directing and coordinating activities consistent with applicable laws, procedures, orders, regulations and policies established by the Board. The Administrator provides leadership and oversight to appointed department heads and works in partnership with the Commissioners who serve as liaisons to county elected officials. This position assists the Board in developing countywide policies, operating plans, and other procedures and objectives for the County. The Administrator supervises County budget development; determining appropriate action plans to meet the directives of the Board and represents the Board in labor negotiations, to the community, and other government agencies.
The Qualifications:
A Master’s degree in public administration, business administration, or a related field is required. In addition, eight (8) years of professional, progressively responsible experience in senior level administrative, managerial, or supervisory capacity is necessary. This would include experience in budget preparation and management, personnel administration, and program development and implementation. Desirable qualities include a commitment to working in a collaborative, friendly team environment. The ideal candidate will be intuitive, flexible, adaptable, and able to exercise excellent leadership, judgment, with proven skills in personnel development, supervision, and the ability to be considerate and respectful of employees.
Compensation:
The salary for the County Administrator will be $149,000-$160,000, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The contract will be negotiated at the time of hire. The Candidate:
In addition to the minimum qualifications, the successful candidate will have the ability to:
- Establish close working relationships with the Commissioners who enjoy a team-oriented and hands on approach. The Commissioners serve as liaisons to county departments and elected officials.
- Effectively listen, communicate, and work collaboratively with elected officials, department heads, subordinates, citizens, and community partners.
- Understand how to be politically astute without being politically involved.
- Confidently represent the Board in complex negotiations.
- Assist the Board in decision-making processes, information gathering, and policy
- Facilitate the communication and decision-making process between departments and the Board.
- Oversee the development and administration of policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
