CHIEF OF POLICE
The new Chief must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and be ready to lead by example. A Bachelor’s degree and local residency within city limits are strongly desired. A minimum of five years of law enforcement service with a California city or county, including street level experience, and at least three years of command or supervisory experience is expected. Salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
THE DEPARTMENT
The Dos Palos Police Department currently has 10 full-time sworn Officers, including a Chief, two Sergeants, a Corporal, and six Patrol Officers which include one Detective/Tobacco Grant funded position and two School Resource Officers. The Department also includes a Records/Dispatch Supervisor and 4 Dispatchers, 1 Animal Control/Code Enforcer and an active Police Reserve program. The Department is a generalist law enforcement agency with duties that include all aspects of police work. The Department’s employees take pride in their work and strive to perform their duties in a business-like professional but sensitive and positive manner. The Department is dedicated to a community-oriented policing philosophy.
THE COMMUNITY
The City of Dos Palos, incorporated in 1935, epitomizes small town America. Local residents strongly support local youth. Dos Palos has one high school, one middle school, and two elementary schools. The local economy is based on Agriculture and its supportive businesses. There are 5,700 residents within the city limits but the city serves a greater community of 8,000. Dos Palos is approximately half way between Fresno and San Jose, about 90 miles to the coast
and about 100 miles to Yosemite National Park. The city has an area of 1½ square miles. A planned new water plant will enable the city to grow significantly over the next few years.

SELECTION PROCESS
Applications are now available at City Hall and online. Completed applications must be received at City Hall, 2174 Blossom Street, Dos Palos, CA 93620 before 12 Noon, Thursday, June 3, 2021. Resumes and additional information may be attached, however, applications must be fully completed. Applications will be screened. The most qualified candidates will be invited to personal interviews before a panel of law enforcement and citizens. The finalists will be asked to provide references and submit to a background check. Successful applicant will be provided reasonable time to give notice to current employer. The new Chief of Police should be prepared to begin work July 16 - August 1, 2021. The City reserves the right to change or extend this schedule to serve the needs of the process.
